For Medical Practitioners

SA Health Clinical Practice Guidelines

The SA Health Clinical Practice Guidelines assist health care providers in the appropriate management of their patients.

Clinical practice guidelines are evidence based statements that include recommendations intended to optimise patient care and assist health care practitioners to make decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances. Clinical practice guidelines should assist clinicians and patients in shared decision making.

(This definition is based on the definition developed by the Institute of Medicine in 2011 and used by the Link iconNational Guideline Clearinghouse from June 2014 onwards).

SA Health Clinical Guidelines are updated and new guidelines added regularly and can be accessed via the SA Health website:

iPhone/iPad 'App'

An iPhone/iPad 'App' has been developed by the South Australian Paediatric and Maternal, Neonatal and Gynaecology Communities of Practice and SA Health's ICT branch to provide increased access to SA Health Practice Guidelines.

The ‘App’ can be accessed free of charge via the iTunes APP Store, it is entitled "Practices Guideline Reader" and complements the already on-line access of the paediatric clinical practice guidelines, perinatal practice guidelines and the neonatal medication guidelines. The development of this 'App' helps SA Health keep in step with Australia’s changing health profile, whilst supporting the optimal care of pregnant women, babies, children and young people.
